What a disgrace to the original... why, why, why?

I will warn you; this review will be harsh. Because this game is just downright terrible in every sense of the word. Words cannot describe my hatred of this game. The worst thing about this game, was because it was a remake/port of one of the best Sonic games ever.

Now let's go back a few years, back before Sonic went 3D, before the Sega Saturn came out, back to where it all began, when the very first Sonic game was released for the Sega Mega Drive. Believe it or not, the very first Sonic game was the very first video game I had ever played, when I was a lot younger. This game looked to be a good thing, but I was oh so wrong.

The story is the same as the original; an evil mad scientist named Dr. Ivo Robotnik captures animals and turns them into robots, as part of his attempt to conquer the world, and only one blue hero with fast feet can put a stop to him. As well as that, there are six Chaos Emeralds in various realms, which if you collect, you get the good ending. Not getting them is equal to getting the 'bad ending' and the game asks you to try again. Simple enough.

Gameplay is terrible, enough said. Want me to make a list of just HOW many things are wrong with the gameplay? Fair enough.

* Collision detection is pitiful. Usually you tend to stop when you bump into something, yet you usually don't here.

* The million and one other glitches.

* Boss battles lack any challenge. >_<

* Lags a lot. Awful framerate.
* Sonic's a lot bigger, making it harder to see what's going on around you.

* Ooh, look Sonic's running! But I'm not even pressing any buttons! :O Stoppit, Sonic, stop!!!

The music sounds so... low-tech and awful. Most, if not all of them, are untrue to the original, especially Spring Yard Zone. The Game Boy Advance would probably have been more than capable of handling the original Sonic game's music, so I fail to see why they had to make the music so terrible. Sound effects are equally bad, they replace a weak-sounding sound effect for quite a lot of things, including hitting Robotnik, hitting enemies and jumping.

The only good thing is the graphics, since it near enough matches the original, though they lack the perfection of the original, they're still somewhat fine. Though graphics do not make a game.

Overall, I wouldn't buy or even LOOK at this piece of rubbish that people call a Sonic game. It is so broken, and so horrid, that it makes me feel sick to my stomach. I'd rather stick to a decent port of this game, and there are other handheld ports of this game, such as Mega Drive Collection for the PSP, and of course, Mega Drive games can apparently be played on a Nomad. What's more, Sonic Jam for the Sega Saturn had the spin-dash option and it didn't eff the game up at all.

This game, however, is the worst port I've ever played. I'd probably go as far to say as it may be the worst Sonic game ever.
